Convert images between PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF

Different jobs call for different image formats: WebP and AVIF make web pages load faster, JPG is understood by virtually every device, and PNG keeps crisp edges and transparency. This free converter moves your images between all four formats right in your browser. There is nothing to install and nothing to upload — the conversion runs locally on your device, so your pictures stay private.

    Choosing the right format

    • WebP — excellent quality at small sizes; supported by every current browser. A great default for websites.
    • AVIF — even smaller than WebP at similar quality; ideal when you want the leanest possible images.
    • JPG — the universal choice for photographs; opens on any device or app ever made.
    • PNG — lossless with transparency; perfect for logos, icons, screenshots and line art.

    Quality, transparency and privacy

For lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) the quality slider controls the balance between file size and visual fidelity; 70–85 is a good starting point for photographs. Converting to PNG always preserves every pixel and any transparency, while converting a transparent image to JPG fills the background because JPG has no alpha channel. Whatever you choose, each image is processed entirely on your own machine — your files never leave your device, are never uploaded, and are never stored on a server.

    Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert between?
You can convert any input image to PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF. That covers everything from web optimisation to compatibility with older software.
    Is the conversion private?
Completely. Images are decoded and re-encoded inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.
    Which format should I pick?
Use WebP or AVIF for the smallest files on modern websites, JPG for broad compatibility with photos, and PNG when you need lossless quality or transparency.
Does the quality slider affect PNG?
No. PNG is a lossless format, so quality only applies when you convert to JPG, WebP or AVIF.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Drop in as many images as you like and convert them in a single pass. You can download each converted file individually or grab the whole set as one ZIP archive.
What happens to transparency when I convert a PNG to JPG?
JPG has no alpha channel, so any transparent areas are filled with a solid background instead of staying see-through. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG, WebP or AVIF, all of which support it.
    Does the converter work offline?
Yes. After the page loads, conversion runs entirely on your device, so you can switch off your connection and keep converting. Nothing is uploaded at any point.
Why doesn’t my old software open WebP or AVIF files?
WebP and AVIF are newer formats that some legacy apps and operating systems never added support for. If a program rejects them, convert to JPG or PNG here for maximum compatibility.
